If the Shoe Fits...

"Have you seen my fabulous shoes?"
Our lovely Marilyn is often attributed with the quote, "Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world." I don't think she ever actually said that, but it's true.  Shoes are so much part of own style, and you can certainly tell a lot about a person by the kind of shoes they wear.

Shoes inspire very intense feelings in most women and some men too. Have you ever seen a girl drool over a pair of those fabulous red-bottomed Louboutins, or a slinky pair of Manolos?  Shoes were practically the 5th friend on Sex and the City!
"Hello Lover"
Shoes make us feel good, and there's so many pluses to shoe shopping as opposed to clothes shopping. You get to sit down and have some handsome shoe salesman slip on slingback after slingback, like you're Cinderella! Bonus- you're never too fat for your shoes.

"Hmm which to wear today?"
There are many things that can make or break an outfit or your whole outlook on the evening, and ladies, shoes are surely one of them. Wearing the right shoes for the right occasion is always important. Imagine walking into a fancy cocktail party in flip-flops, or going to a baseball game in 5 inch heels. Both would look ridiculous and you'd probably feel a little foolish, or at least you should.

Ava Gardner admiring some slingbacks.
One quick word about shoes and how much they cost. I'm all for deals on almost anything, shoes included. However, cheap shoes, are not always good. Cheap shoes are most likely not well crafted, and they will hurt. Trust me on that. Ask any girl who picked up a pair of pumps at a someplace like Forever 21. You'll think, oh they're so cute, and oh look, they're only $12.99. Yeah wear them one night out and chances are you will never wear them again, and they'll sit in the back of your closet collecting dust until you give or throw them away. Never mind the fact that your feet were in tremendous pain, but they're probably also falling apart. If you treat shoes as a mini investment, you'll end up saving in the long run. Spend more money on the classic shoes that you will get more use of and that will never go out of style. That does NOT include anything with sparkles, studs, neon, gold lame, or anything you'd see a rappers girlfriend or Lady Gaga wearing.

Yes, these would classify as an appropriate shoe investment.
So, now lets talk about heel height. High heels have been around since the 1600's, however the stiletto heel didn't come out until 1953, with the new metal spigot and moulded heel. Many buildings actually banned them in the 50's because of the damage they did to the floors. Take note: be careful walking around on your hardwood floors in stilettos, contrary-wise, dance around in your stilettos on a cheating ex-boyfriends wood floors.

These shoes just make me happy.

Now a quote that Marilyn did say regarding shoes..
"I don't know who invented the high heel, but all women owe him a lot."
Marilyn proving that wearing heels in a bathing suit is a good thing.
Truer words were never spoken. When you wear heels it changes the way hold yourself, it changes your posture. They make your legs look longer, make your back arch, in turn, pushing your chest out and your bum up. Creating the look that men instinctively find attractive. They give women a look of elegance and confidence.

However, if you're wearing heels that are too high, you end up doing the opposite. How can that be you ask? Picture this..a beautiful girl, in a chic little cocktail dress and she's wearing these 5 inch+ heels. Then you see her walk. Or try to walk. Her feet may be a little duck-like, and she's a wobbling a bit, basically she looks very uncomfortable, off-balance, and like she can't wait to sit down. You know you've seen these girls. This unfortunate scene happens all too often. It totally takes away the sexiness of wearing high heels. And don't even get my started on the girls who decide their feet hurt too much, so they take their shoes OFF and WALK BAREFOOT ON THE STREET. I've seen this in LA, NYC, Orlando, Boston, etc. It baffles me. This is where buying well made shoes and breaking them in a little comes in handy. Unless of course you don't mind walking with your bare feet on a city sidewalk that dogs and homeless people use as a bathroom, and God knows what else has been on that ground. And then going home and traipsing dirt and debris all over your floors and then in YOUR BED! Okay I'm starting to sound like my grandmother, so I'll stop ranting, but you get the point. Could you imagine Grace Kelly walking around after a night out carrying her royal shoes in her hand? No. Just no.

This is my reaction when I see a girl walking barefoot on the street.
Please don't do it.  When you're out and you're feet are killing you and you're tempted to take off your heels, just remember the great words of Marilyn Monroe's character in Gentleman Prefer Blondes, Lorelei Lee, "Please, a lady never admits her feet hurt."

And remember, high heels are something that are meant to enhance our beauty and femininity. Think of that when you're strutting across a crowded bar, with every man's head turning. And if that doesn't help just think about getting home and having one of those men give you a nice foot massage.

And if all that doesn't make you realize the wonderfulness that is shoes, here's a clip from one of my favorite movies. Just goes to show, that sometimes with the right shoe a girl can conquer the world, or at the very least, marry Prince Charming.

Happy Birthday Barbara Stanwyck and Ginger Rogers!

Today, A Return to Glamour would like to mention two very special birthdays. Today is not only Barbara Stanwyck's birthday, it is also the wonderful and talented Ginger Rogers birthday.

Barbara had a 60 year career as a film and television actress. She was a true professional with a strong screen presence, and favorite among directors. Frank Capra once said, "In a Hollywood popularity contest she would win first prize hands down." She was nominated for an Academy Award four times, and is listed by the American Film Institute as the number 11 actress on their Screen Legend list .  Some of her best known films include the 1944 noir thriller, Double Indemnity, and the 1945 holiday romance, Christmas In Connecticut. She was married twice, first to actor Frank Fray in 1928. Then in 1936 while making the film, His Brother's Wife, she met and fell in love with her co-star Robert Taylor. Barbara will always be remembered as one of the most dazzling stars of Hollywood's Golden Age.
Below is a short clip from Double Indemnity.

We can't forget that today is also Ginger Rogers birthday.

Ginger is one of my favorite stars from the 30's and 40's. She is best known for her films with Fred Astaire. The two of them together were magic. From 1933- 1939 they made nine films together. Mostly musical screwball comedies. I remember being about five years old and watching Top Hat, and I was so mesmerized by Fred and Ginger's dancing. The scene where they dance outside and sing "Cheek to Cheek" is forever engrained in my mind. Her dress was all feathers on the bottom and during the dance she did some fan kicks and I remember the dress looked so beautiful flying through the air. The whole number was just perfection. Even when I watch it now 20 years later, I am just as awed.

Bob Thaves once said about the two of them, "Sure he was great, but don't forget Ginger Rogers did everything Fred did, but backwards and in high heels!" I always thought that was great.

As a team, Fred and Ginger were, as I said before, movie magic. They made everything look so effortless. Together their musical and comedic timing could not be matched. And they were just so elegant. If you haven't seen any of their films, please do yourself a favor and check the TCM schedule or Netflix. Two of my favorites are the aforementioned Top Hat, and Swing Time.  Just classic,  wonderful movies.

In addition to her films with Astaire, she had a very successful career on her own.  I have to mention my favorite, non Fred movie of hers. The 1941 comedy hit-  Tom, Dick and Harry. In it she has three different men after her, and she has dreams of marrying each one and how her life would be different with each man. I watched it this year on a cold winter night, while I was taking a bubble bath. It was quite fun, I highly recommend it. (Just be careful with electronics around the water, darlings!)

Ginger was married five times in her lifetime, all ending in divorce. She was lifelong friends with Lucille Ball and Bette Davis. She was also on the American Film Institutes Screen Legends list, coming in at number 14.

Ginger Rogers will forever be remember as one of the most talented, glamourous and hardworking stars of 30's, 40's and 50's. However it is unlikely that a biographical film will ever be made of her and Fred, he had it stipulated in his will that no representation of himself ever be made on film. It's probably for the best however, since I don't think any other performers could ever do justice to their talents.

The first clip below is the clip number from Top Hat I mentioned before. Oh, I wish I man would sing and dance with me like that..such grace and class.  The second is a fun tap number from Swing Time
Enjoy! And Happy Birthday Ladies!

Happy Birthday Dean Martin!

Today is the King of Cool, Dean Martin's birthday. If he were alive would have been 95 today. Dino is my absolute favorite male celebrity of all time; old Hollywood, new Hollywood, future Hollywood- Dean is it for me. He is also, in my opinion, my idea of the perfect man. There was no one more handsome. He was born Dino Paul Crocetti on June 7, 1917 in Steubenville, Ohio, to Italian immigrant parents, Guy and Angela. Before he got into show business he worked in the steel mills, as a croupier, delivering bootleg liquor and had a short lived career as an amateur boxer.

Always a talented singer, he began signing in local bars and in the early 1940's began singing with Sammy Watkins band and that's when he changed his name to Dean Martin. He was doing relatively well during the first half of the 40's, singing in various nightclubs in NYC, but it wasn't until he met a young struggling comic, Jerry Lewis, in 1946 that his career, and Jerry's really took off.

Dean and Jerry's chance meeting marked a defining point in both of their careers. In a short amount of time they skyrocketed to superstardom as Martin and Lewis. They performed in nightclubs all over the country, radio, on television on the Colgate Comedy Hour on NBC, and in 1949 they signed with Paramount. While under contract with Paramount Dean and Jerry made 17 comedic pictures. Martin and Lewis were America's most loved comedy team during the 50's and when they broke up in 1956- 10 years to the day of teaming up- the county was not happy, and many critics doubted how well Dean would do on his own.

However, going solo proved to be a great move for both, especially Dean. He starred in some big name films in the late 50's, starring alongside the likes of Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift in The Young Lions,  and really proving his dramatic acting skills with John Wayne in Rio Bravo. His solo success continued when he teamed up with pal Frank Sinatra in the Vincent Minnelli hit Some Came Running.

The film roles kept coming, he continued his nightclub appearances in Vegas, his recording career was booming, and all the while Sinatra's Rat Pack was forming. In addition to Frank and Dean there was Sammy Davis Jr, Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. They referred to themselves as The Clan or The Summit- never The Ratpack. They were IT during the early 60's in Hollywood, everyone wanted to be part of their social circle. They did films together, like the 1960 hit Oceans 11, which they shot in Las Vegas during the day and did their live show at the Sands at night. They also had political influence during the 1960 presidental campaign. Frank Sinatra's relationship with JFK (who was Peter Lawford's brother in law) is legendary.

By the mid 60's Dean was one of the most successful entertainers, having successfully reached the top of every area of entertainment, so why not have a hit prime time TV show? In 1965 NBC approached him to do a weekly variety show, he wasn't crazy about the idea so he told them he'd do it if he only had to show up once a week to tape and asked for a lot of money, thinking they would turn down his request. But no, NBC wanted Dean so his requests were granted. The show was a hit with Dean's easy going and laid back personality, and it played up his boozy, playboy persona. He hated to rehearse, and for anyone else that might be a disaster, but for Dean it was perfect. The loose format of the show was  successful for Dean and his quick wit, often improvising, his guests and the audience loved it, and him.

At one point during the 1960's Dean was the highest paid entertainer in the country. He has three different stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for film, one for TV, and one for his recording career.

Dean was married three times, the first in 1941 to Betty McDonald, they had four children together, Craig, Cladia, Gail, and Deana. His second and most successful marriage was to Jeanne Biegger in 1949. They met in 1948 in Miami Beach while he and Jerry were doing a show at the Beach Comber Club. She was a former Orange Bowl Queen, and both she and Dean fell madly in love the first time they layed eyes on each other. Jeanne is one of my seven, so expect a full post on her soon. They had three children together, Dean Paul, Ricci, and Gina. Dean and Jeanne were married for 24 years before getting divorced in 1973. He then married a young woman named Cathy Hawn in 1973, she was 23 and he was 56. They were married for only three years when he filed for divorce. This is what is commonly referred to as a mid-life crisis. Dean and Jeanne eventually reconciled and got back together in the early 80's, and they remained extremely close for the rest of his life.

Dean died at his home in Beverly Hills early Christmas morning in 1995 at the age of 78. The lights on the Las Vegas strip were dimmed for five minutes in his honor.

Dean Martin was a true legend. His music, films and TV show are still popular today. Within the past year The Dean Martin Variety Show has been rereleased to huge numbers. This month another set of Dean goodies go on sale. For the first time The Dean Martin Variety Show will be released UNCUT, full episodes instead of just clips and skits from various episodes. Also on June 12, UMe will release Collected Cool, the first ever career defining box set. It will include all his greatest hits, as well as a DVD of his 1983 London concert, and a very rare audio recording of a 1962 Lake Tahoe show that he did at Sinatra's CalNeva. I believe and I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure this recording was from a late July show, which Marilyn Monroe was in attendance for. It was her last visit to CalNeva, she died less than a week later.

Obviously Dean's popularity is only growing, with each new generation realizing just how cool and talented he really is. For me Dean's music, films and wonderful humor, not to mention his timelessly handsome looks, will never go out of style, and neither will Dean Martin.

To celebrate Dean's birthday I made a quick little video, but for some reason it's not uploading, so while I figure that out, enjoy some of my favorite clips of Dean. Here from the 1967 Christmas Special with Frank Sinatra.

Here at a 1965 Rat Pack Show in St. Louis

And a little clip from the opening of The Dean Martin Show

Well, a week later and the little video I made for his birthday finally uploaded, I had to take it from youtube..but here it is..enjoy!

The Ladies of A Return to Glamour

So I know I a few weeks ago I said that there were seven women who initially inspired me to start this blog, and I would be doing separate posts on each one.  I started with Ava Gardner and then I never gave you the other six. I'm sure you've all been waiting with bated breath, I actually received a few requests for the rest of them. I'm terrible and I apologize. So while I work on getting those to you, I made a little video with all the women and I hope that makes up for my lateness with their individual stories.  Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Happy Birthday Marilyn!

Today, June 1, 2012 would have been Marilyn Monroe's 86th birthday. She was and is the most recognizable woman on the planet. Even 50 years after her death she is still wildly popular and adored by millions of people. Marilyn is also probably one of the most misunderstood people of the 20th century, but more on that later. Marilyn defines the word STAR, but she was so much more than a movie star, she was highly intelligent, sensitive, determined, hardworking and much more insightful than most people knew. Tonight lets all lift a glass of Marilyn's favorite Dom Perignon and toast to the legend, the icon, the one and only Marilyn Monroe.
Below is a little video I made in honor of her birthday. Enjoy.

Happy Birthday Katharine Hepburn!

Today would have been Katharine Hepburn's 105th birthday! Katharine was one of Hollywood's greatest leading ladies, and she was well know for her independence and free spirt. She was outspoken, athletic and assertive. She challenged the traditional female norms and did and dressed as she pleased; she wore pants while most women in the 30's and 40's wouldn't be seen in public without a dress or a skirt.  Her career in Hollywood lasted over 60 years, and The American Film Institute has rated her the Number 1 female actress of all time. She was truly one of a kind. Happy Birthday Kate!

Global Glamour- Fabulous Finds: Filthy Rich in Wilmington, NC

Baubles, Bangles and Beads!

Owner Mary Neal

On some of my recent travels, I found myself in Wilmington North Carolina. Wilmington is a charming little city and downtown Wilmington is set against the picturesque Cape Fear River. There are so many  delicious restaurants, quaint little candy stores and adorable boutiques.

Among them is Filthy Rich, a specialty store that sells high-quality celebrity replica jewelry. The pieces are both stunning and affordable. Among the collections are The Jackie Kennedy Collection, The Golden Era of Hollywood, and the Contemporary Collection. The Jackie collection (might be my personal favorite) is made up of pieces from Jackie's own dazzling jewelry collection. The Hollywood Collection has pieces worn by Marilyn Monroe, Ingrid Bergman, Vivien Leigh and Jean Harlow among others. The Contemporary Collection has pieces ranging from Princess Diana to Carrie Bradshaw.

What's more is the great feel of the shop. The first time I stumbled upon it was last summer,  I was driving by and saw in the window a huge picture of Marilyn, obviously I had to turn around and explore this place.  When you walk in you are immediately greeted by owner Mary Neal, who couldn't be more lovely or more helpful. In addition to her warm welcome, Filthy Rich is a real treat for your eyes and your ears. There is usually some Sinatra tune coming out of the speakers or a fabulous old movie playing, when I was there the Elizabeth Taylor classic, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof was playing. But if jewelry isn't your thing (??!!) there's plenty of other goodies, from books, to bags, to posters, lunch boxes and clocks. I bought a fabulous Marilyn clock that is now hanging in my kitchen, and an Audrey Hepburn reusable shopping bag that I brought to the Beverly Hills Farmers Market last week to carry all my vegetables, and I received tons of compliments on it! You can still be chic while you haggle with farmers over radishes and asparagus.

So ladies and gentleman, the next time you find yourself in Wilmington, North Carolina make it a point to stop in and check out Filthy Rich at 221 N. Front Street. And check them out on Facebook . You don't want to miss this little gem! After all, diamonds are a girls best friend :)

The Ladies of A Return to Glamour..

There are seven women who initially inspired me to make this blog and who continue to inspire me every single day, in everything I do and say. They’re all beautiful, glamorous, intelligent, witty and elegant, and they all have some things in common, yet they’re all vastly unique women. I’ll be referring to each of them often so I figured it would be beneficial to give a brief history of each of these lovely ladies. Starting it off is the alluring Ava Gardner...

Ava Gardner- The Goddess

Ava Gardner was and is considered to be one of the most stunningly beautiful women that ever lived, let alone in Hollywood. Her striking looks took her from small town southern girl to MGM’s femme fatale.
Ava was born in a small town in North Carolina on December 24, 1922, and had a normal southern upbringing by all accounts. After high school she began taking courses to become a secretary, but when she was 18 years old her brother in law took a photograph of her and placed it in a display window in New York City. The rest as they say was fate...that photo was seen by a talent scout for MGM, that led to a screen test for Louis B. Mayer and a seven year contract with Metro- Goldwyn- Mayer. In Hollywood Ava spent a lot of time doing cheesecake photos for the studio that were sent over to the troops and doing small walk on roles in different movies. That is until she finally got the attention she deserved with her performance in the film noir classic, The Killers. With that film Ava became a star. She went on to star in other films, alongside such heavyweights like Clark Gable, Gregory Peck and Humphrey Bogart. In 1953 she was nominated for her performance in Mogambo costarring Gable and Grace Kelly. Ava was a HUGE star in the late 40’s and the 50’s, and her personal life was just as exciting as anything on the silver screen...
In 1941 Ava met Mickey Rooney, who at the time was a serious superstar. He obviously fell in love with her. (But really though, who wouldn’t.) They married in January 1942 and divorced 17 months, mainly because of Mickey’s womanizing ways.

Ava’s second marriage was to band leader Artie Shaw in 1945. Artie tried to “teach” Ava, but always managed to make her feel terrible. He was extremely critical about her lack of formal education. I remember reading that he would humiliate her at social events. For example if they were having a party and he and his “educated” friends would be discussing literature or politics or something and she remained silent he would say in front of everyone, “Have you nothing to contribute?”, then on occasions she would try to say something he’d have a lovely comment like, “Oh shut up, you have no idea what you’re talking about.” What a charmer. They divorced in 1946.

Ava also had a close friendship with billionaire businessman, avatior and movie producer Howard Hughes. He, just like every other man she met was crazy about her, however she said in her own autobiography that she was never in love with Howard. He remained in her life for twenty years, in and out. He trusted her a great deal. Ava described him as “painfully shy, completely enigmatic and more eccentric...than anyone she had ever met."
And now on to the big one...the love of her life..Ol’ Blue Eye’s himself, Frank Sinatra. For Ava this would be her third and final marriage, Frank’s second. And certainly the most tumultuous and passionate either one would ever have. When they met Frank was still married to his first wife, Nancy, the mother of his three young children.  The press and the public were, as you can imagine, very critical of their relationship, and especially on Ava. She was called a home-wrecker, tramp and worse. Frank didn’t have it much easier, at the time his career had hit a low and now he was being killed by the gossip columns, the Catholic Church and his fans. Nevertheless they married in November 1951, just days after his divorce from Nancy was finalized. With Ava’s help Frank’s career got back on track, she helped him land his Oscar winning role in From Here to Eternity. Frank and Ava were both extremely jealous and possesive people, add that to the heavy drinking they both did and you get some passionate fights. Most of their marriage was a series of fighting and making up, constantly. I read somewhere that on the day they married they called it off and made up THREE TIMES before the ceremony. She drove him insane and he made her crazy, but they loved each other, probably too much to ever make it work. They divorced in 1957 but always remained in each others lives. Both Frank and Ava regarded the other as the one true love of their lives. Frank’s musical arranger Nelson Riddle was quoted as saying that it was “Ava that taught him to sing a torch song.” Ava was the inspiration for Franks hit “I’m a Fool to Want You.”

Ava moved to Spain in 1958 after the divorce from Frank and began seeing matador Luis Miguel Dominguin. After ten years in Spain she moved to England, where she lived the rest of her life in London. She suffered two strokes in 1986, and even though she could afford to pay her medical expenses, Frank wanted her to see a specialist in Los Angeles and so she let him fly her to LA in a medically staffed private plane. Ava died January 25, 1990. After she died Frank’s youngest daughter, Tina found him crying in bedroom for days unable to speak to anyone. He didn’t attend her funeral in North Carolina, but he did sent a lovely floral arrangement, with the card simply reading, “All my love, Francis.” (She always called him Francis)
Now to truly understand her beauty and her wonderful personality, here is an excerpt from the book, My Life with Frank Sinatra. It’s a fantastic book and it covers almost everyone. It was written by Frank’s personal valet, George Jacobs, and he talks about Ava quite often. In this part he describes his first meeting with her, when Frank had sent him to pick her up from the airport...

“Ava Gardner was the most beautiful woman I ever saw, much less met. I picked her up at the airport and she could stop planes, not just traffic. There was no movie star nonsense with her, no entourage, no fawning press agents in tow. She was pushing her own bags on a cart, trying to lie low in dark glasses and a tatty raincoat. But once I had her in the Cadillac and she took off the coat and the shades, I could barely steer strait. The first thing that hit me were those cats’ eyes of hers, green with flecks of gold and hypnotic as hell. She wasn’t wearing an ounce of makeup and her skin was creamy and flawless. Her hair was thick and lustrous. Then there was her body. She was five seven, sleek, but with amazing curves. She wasn’t wearing a bra, which was totally risque in those days. She had the ideal body, the kind that stars these days pay fortunes to plastic surgeons for. The best thing about her though, was that she didn’t give a shit. She wasn’t trying to be hot and she wasn’t trying to be grand. She was just trying to get away from it all. She made me stop for a Coke and some peanuts, which she poured into the bottle and ate and guzzled at the same time.”
A few little facts about Ava, she was a big drinker, and she cursed like a drunken sailor. But she was always very lady like about it. When she died People Magizines cover read- “The Last Goddess.” For further reading about Ava I recommend Lee Server’s amazing biography “Ava Garder: Love is Nothing” and George Jacobs book, My Life with Mr. Sinatra. Here’s a bit from Lee Server’s book..
"So here is how an evening out with Ava Gardner used to go.  You would arrive at her place in the Hollywood hills and she would be in the pool, naked, or slouching around the apartment, half dressed. Which guy were you?  Her 6 O'Clock or her 8 O’Clock?  Did you pass another guy on the way out by the potted palm?  Then you were her 8 O'Clock.  "Fix yourself a drink would you?"  She had to take a bath.  She would finally emerge, looking devastating, muttering something about having lost her diaphragm, and you would go to dinner; everyone would be looking and you would feel the luckiest guy on the planet.  Then you would go on to a club, do the rhumba, and get properly drunk; if you were unlucky Sinatra would track you down, and would appear out of nowhere and start screaming.  Then the evening would really get started.  What you did with yourself after that point was entirely up to you."

Now for my favorite Ava quotes and pictures..
"After my screen test, the director clapped his hands gleefully and yelled, "She can’t talk, she can’t act, she’s sensational!”

"Because I was promoted as a sort of a siren and played all those sexy broads, people made the mistake of thinking I was like that off the screen.  They couldn't have been more wrong"

"I haven't taken an overdose of sleeping pills and called my agent. I haven't been in jail, and I don't go running to the psychiatrist every two minutes.  That's something of an accomplishment these days"

"I don't understand people who like to work and talk about it like it was some sort of goddamn duty. Doing nothing feels like floating on warm water to me.  Delightful, perfect"

"I think the main reason my marriages failed
is that I always loved too well, but never wisely"

"I suffered, I really suffered, with all three of my husbands.  And I tried damn hard with all three, starting each marriage certain that it was going to last until the end of my life.  Yet none of them lasted more than a year or two"

"All I ever got out of any of my marriages
was the two years Artie Shaw financed on an analyst's couch"

"When I’m old and grey, I want to have a house by the sea.  And paint.  With a lot of wonderful chums, good music, and booze around.  And a damn good kitchen to cook in"

One of my personal favorites, when asked by a reporter what she saw in Sinatra, a 119 pound has been, Ava very demurely shot back that 19 pounds of him “is cock.”

"What I'd really like to say about stardom is that it gave me everything I never wanted."

"I've certainly never taken the care of myself that I should have. On the contrary. I've done a lot of late nights without enough sleep and all that. But I've had fun. Whatever wrinkles are there, I've enjoyed getting them."

"When I lose my temper, honey, you can't find it anywhere."

"I must have seen more sunrises
than any other actress in the history of Hollywood"

"I wish to live until 150 years old, but the day I die,
I wish it to be with a cigarette in one hand
and a glass of whiskey in the other"

The Inspiration for ARTG

There once was a time when women carried themselves with class and grace. They wore clothes in the right size that covered their bodies, they wore make-up that enhanced their beauty, they spoke intelligently. They were ladies. Fast forward to 2012, real ladies are few and far between. Girls and young women are over tanned, over made up, over exposed, over sharing, yet somehow, underdressed. What happened? We now idolize people who are on reality shows cursing, crying, screaming, falling down drunk and acting like fools. We look up to people with sex tapes and DUI arrests. None of those things are très chic. I want to end that foolery. Let's get back to acting like ladies and getting treated like ladies.

Welcome to A Return to Glamour!

Welcome darlings! This is a celebration of that wonderful time where style, class and charm reigned supreme- the 1950's-1960's. This will be more than just a nostalgic trip back to that great time; there will be tips, tricks, stories along with personal experiences and observations, that will help us all lead that charming and stylish life. So ladies pour yourselves a dry martini, put on your pearls, crank up the Sinatra and lets get glamourous!
I would like to add that this is my first blog, I'm very new to this so please bear with me! I'm still learning how to do all the technical things, so for now its going to be very simple until I learn how to jazz it up a bit.
