Happy Birthday Katharine Hepburn!

Today would have been Katharine Hepburn's 105th birthday! Katharine was one of Hollywood's greatest leading ladies, and she was well know for her independence and free spirt. She was outspoken, athletic and assertive. She challenged the traditional female norms and did and dressed as she pleased; she wore pants while most women in the 30's and 40's wouldn't be seen in public without a dress or a skirt.  Her career in Hollywood lasted over 60 years, and The American Film Institute has rated her the Number 1 female actress of all time. She was truly one of a kind. Happy Birthday Kate!

On some of my recent travels, I found myself in Wilmington North Carolina. Wilmington is a charming little city and downtown Wilmington is set against the picturesque Cape Fear River. There are so many  delicious restaurants, quaint little candy stores and adorable boutiques. 

Among them is Filthy Rich, a specialty store that sells high-quality celebrity replica jewelry. The pieces are both stunning and affordable. Among the collections are The Jackie Kennedy Collection, The Golden Era of Hollywood, and the Contemporary Collection. The Jackie collection (might be my personal favorite) is made up of pieces from Jackie's own dazzling jewelry collection. The Hollywood Collection has pieces worn by Marilyn Monroe, Ingrid Bergman, Vivien Leigh and Jean Harlow among others. The Contemporary Collection has pieces ranging from Princess Diana to Carrie Bradshaw. 

What's more is the great feel of the shop. The first time I stumbled upon it was last summer,  I was driving by and saw in the window a huge picture of Marilyn, obviously I had to turn around and explore this place.  When you walk in you are immediately greeted by owner Mary Neal, who couldn't be more lovely or more helpful. In addition to her warm welcome, Filthy Rich is a real treat for your eyes and your ears. There is usually some Sinatra tune coming out of the speakers or a fabulous old movie playing, when I was there the Elizabeth Taylor classic, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof was playing. But if jewelry isn't your thing (??!!) there's plenty of other goodies, from books, to bags, to posters, lunch boxes and clocks. I bought a fabulous Marilyn clock that is now hanging in my kitchen, and an Audrey Hepburn reusable shopping bag that I brought to the Beverly Hills Farmers Market last week to carry all my vegetables, and I received tons of compliments on it! You can still be chic while you haggle with farmers over radishes and asparagus.  

So ladies and gentleman, the next time you find yourself in Wilmington, North Carolina make it a point to stop in and check out Filthy Rich at 221 N. Front Street. And check them out on Facebook . You don't want to miss this little gem! After all, diamonds are a girls best friend :)
